Nearly 40,000 railway workers across the United Kingdom are on strike for the second time this week. The first strike took place on Tuesday, 21 June 2022.
Additionally, half of the railway networks remain shut in England, Wales, and Scotland. It comes right after train operating companies and union workers could not come to a conclusion.
The main cause of the rail strike is the unsatisfactory working conditions of the railway workers. They have been demanding an increase in their salary. However, the government and the train operating companies call the act unnecessary and problematic for the general public.
Even though railway companies want to compromise with the workers, they cannot afford to increase their salaries.
According to BBC, there will also be a strike on Saturday, 25 June 2022, if both parties do not reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen has announced going on strike on 23 June and 26 June. It will affect the Greater Anglia train services and the Hull Trains service.
Additionally, it also plans to go on strike on 28 and 29 June and 13 and 14 July, making Croydon Tramlink unserviceable for locals.
With only 20% of rail services running, many people have been affected by the strike. In fact, most of them have shown their dismay and have stated that a strike that, too on such a large scale, does no good to anyone.
On the other hand, the passengers have been advised to check the status of their trains and even expect a delay or cancellation.
