The White House has raised an alarm about the threat that Russia will escalate its war on Ukraine with chemical weapons but is stopping short of establishing red lines that would involve U.S. military intervention. Furthermore, Russia’s repeated references to chemical and biological weapons are just evidence of proving the Biden administration right.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki says the world needs to have its “eyes open” to the capability and pattern of the Russians to use chemical and biological weapons as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine. The comments follow the Biden administration’s warning that Russia might seek to use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine. This was seen coming after the White House rejected Russian claims of illegal chemical weapons development in the country it has invaded.
Russia has a track record of accusing the west of the very violation that Russia itself is illegal. Furthermore, even US was falsely accused of deploying contractors with chemical weapons in Ukraine, the secretary continued. All Russia is trying to do is prove itself right, justifying its unprovoked, unjustified attack in Ukraine. China was also seen being endorsed by this propaganda where Russia made these false claims.
Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also claimed that Russia was discovering evidence of a program for developing anthrax and biological weapons which were run by the United States in Ukraine. Ned Price, a State Department Sportsman said that Russia’s disinformation was total nonsense and it wasn’t the first time the country is being defamed wrongly. These claims have been repeated and debunked conclusively over many years. Furthermore, the claims were considered absurd by the press secretary John Kirby. The Russian military has been increasingly targeting civilians and government buildings. This has made the White House more vigilant of Russia’s actions. Even Ukrainian officials said that Russian hit hospital building in the city of Marsupial including a materiality ward.
“The US administration is responsible for the current events and must provide details of what it was doing in Ukraine,”, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Washington should explain the programs, she said.
Hamish de Bretton Gordon, a chemical warfare specialist, said this could be preparing the ground for their use. “The Russians talking about biological weapons in these laboratories that they claim the Americans are funding seems that they are preparing the battlefield for false flag attacks,” he told The National. “That will then justify them using any weapons they’ve got.”
