The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has finally agreed to resign from his position after several ministers quit the government within a couple of days. The situation worsened when two senior cabinet ministers resigned just minutes after each other on Tuesday.
That’s not all; their resignation also prompted junior ministers to quit their respective positions. Additionally, they also mentioned that they have zero confidence in Johnson’s leadership, especially after he admitted to knowing about Chris Pinchers’ reputation.
On Wednesday, senior ministers from Boris’ party approached him to resign from his post. Initially, Boris was reluctant; however, he gave in to the pressure when Education Secretary Michelle Donelan announced her resignation.
After the news of Boris’ resignation broke, Sir Keir Starmer deemed it a “great move that will be fruitful for the country’s growth.”
It is believed that Johnson had approached the Queen to tell her that he would continue his term as an interim prime minister until the party appoints a new leader. It could result in Boris staying at 10 Downing Street up until October.
Meanwhile, the discussion regarding the new leader has already begun, and a few names have come under the limelight. It includes Rishi Sunak, Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.
