Despite the decline in Covid-19 cases in January, coronavirus infections are seen to be rising in adults in the UK. The React Covid-19 monitoring program took 95,000 swab tests in February and around 1 in 35 people in the UK were infected with the coronavirus. Most of these cases were seen in people who are 55 years or older. As the government lifted all covid restrictions this led to gathering and socializing in people at a high rate. Covid infections rose rapidly in adults and older people. This led to a panic situation as before the situation was in control.
Researchers said that this rise in infections might be due to more socializing as many covid restrictions were lifted during late February. The director of the study, Paul Elliott mentioned that there was an uptick in infections and hospitalizations. These infections were mostly seen in older groups of people. He said to closely monitor the infections through surveys, like REACT and hospital facilities. The head of the UK Health Security Agency, Jenny Harris said that the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to continue for more time. It isn’t over yet. People are advised to stay in their homes and only come out when it’s necessary.
Surveys showed that more than 346,000 people tested positive during the last week and the cases raised to 46% compared to previous weeks. The survey and studies showed that almost half of the positive cases were sub-variants of omicron cases. Researchers mentioned that sub-variants of omicron cases are most likely to be transmissible. The Britain government lifted all the covid restrictions in England in February as cases seemed to decline in December and January. People who test positive are no longer needed to isolate themselves at home. Wearing masks in public places and tracing infected people’s contacts are also scrapped. As these restrictions are lifted this led to an immediate rise in infections, mostly in adults as they are the working members of any family.
The UK government has advised the people to remain in their homes to avoid getting infected. The government is trying to bring the situation under control without causing more infections. People need to fit this thing in their minds and follow the covid guidelines and restrictions properly to avoid risking their lives. They should only go to their work and to buy other necessary things.
