Last week Boris Johnson resigned from his position as UK’s Prime Minister after facing a lot of criticism. To replace him, several MPs have stepped into the race to become the next PM. This includes Indian-origin Rishi Sunak, who is considered the top competitor as of now.
Additionally, Sunak has been backed by other prominent leaders, including deputy PM Dominic Raab, Matt Hancock, and Grant Shapps. In fact, Grant even dropped out from the race after previously entering it to extend his support to the former Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Besides, Grant also denied the use of dirty tricks in Sunak’s campaign.
According to Wall Street Journal, the other seven candidates who are set to run in the Prime Minister race are Jeremy Hunt, Kemi Badenoch, Penny Mordaunt, Tom Tugendhat, Liz Truss, Suella Braverman, and Nadhim Zahawi.
The most surprising fact regarding these candidates is that they come from different ethnicities.
While Rishi is expected to take Boris Johnson’s place, the final results will only be declared in September. Additionally, the Conservative Party will narrow down to two candidates by 21 July, when the Parliament will go into recess.
If Rishi Sunak succeeds former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, he will be the first Asian to take over this position. Well, we cannot wait to see what’s in store for the UK’s upcoming government.
