Bill Turnbull, popularly known as the host of BBC Breakfast, passed away at the age of 66. The news has been confirmed by his family.
Reportedly, he was suffering from prostate cancer since 2017. Their family stated that Bill has been fighting the battle with Cancer for almost 6 years now, but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it. He died peacefully in the presence of the people he loved the most on August 31, they added.
People will always remember Bill as a funny, happy, and positive person who was full of life. He was an outstanding broadcaster and was the life of the BBC Breakfast show with his comedy and humor. Bill was not just an amazing host but the best father, brother, friend, son, and husband. We will miss his beautiful smile and the way he made everyone around him laugh. We want people to remember him as a happy person who was full of life, their family stated.
When Bill was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, and when the news about the same came out, he received a lot of love and support from his colleagues, friends, and the audience.
He was being given excellent treatment and care from the Royal Marsden and Ipswich hospital, St Elizabeth Hospice. Bill was very positive throughout his cancer journey and never freaked out. He used to give major credit for this to his family, friends, and colleagues.
It was in 2018 that Bill talked about his prostate cancer and that it has now multiplied and spread to his bones. The news of his death upset his colleagues and the audience.
Sussana Reid, one of Bill’s colleagues, posted on Twitter: ‘Bill was the kindest, funniest, most generous man in the business. I feel lucky to have worked with him, and he taught me everything. But above all, he was devoted to his family, and I am heartbroken for them. RIP Bill. We will miss you so much.”
Alastair Stewart posted: “So sad to learn of the death of Bill Turnbull … broadcaster and bee-keeper, extraordinaire. Bill was a master of the old school: informed, charming, collegiate, competitive but ever courteous. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends.”
Bill Turnbull, original name William Robert Jolyon Turnbull, was born on January 25, 1956, in Guildford, Surrey, England. He was well-known as a presenter on Classic FM and BBC Breakfast.
