The race to become the United Kingdom’s next Prime Minister has narrowed to five candidates. These include Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, Tom Tugendhat, Liz Truss, and Kemi Badenoch.
All five were seen on the Channel 4 TV debate to counter each other and win the hearts of the general public. However, the debate allowed us to see the differences between the Tory leaders and how quickly they could get up to get others’ throats.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss started the debate by commenting on Rishi Sunak’s tax rises while he was chancellor. While she pledged to reserve them if and when she comes to power, she also promised to remove taxes on energy bills.
According to The Guardian, Rishi, on the other hand, gave his best shot and defended the tax rise as an essential step to fund the National Health Service (NHS)
In addition to this, the candidates shared their plans for funding public services and helping the citizen live a comfortable life during inflation. The only thing that reached a common conclusion in the debate was Boris Johnson’s dishonesty and how he failed to win the general public’s trust.
It has only been a week since Boris’ retirement; however, the candidates want the next Prime Minister to come into action as soon as possible. Well, we shall get to see the two shortlisted candidates by Wednesday.
