The host for Eurovision 2023 has been decided after a tough competition. Graham Norton announced Liverpool as the host city this year.
Ukraine was supposed to host the song contest in 2023 after their win this year. However, due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, it will not be able to do so.
Joanne Anderson, the mayor of Liverpool, was delighted after the announcement. She mentioned that they face tough competition from Glasgow.
This is a grand event, and all the eyes will be on us in May 2023. We are extremely happy to be chosen as the host city. However, there is a huge responsibility on us. We need to work for months now to ensure that we are able to put it in the best manner.
I promise that we will not disappoint anyone, especially our friends in Ukraine. Ukraine has my word that we would do you proud, she added.
She further said that Liverpool is hosting the contest only for Ukraine. They were not the winner of the contest this year. She is happy that Liverpool won, and she feels sorry for Glasgow.
Claire McColgan, who is the director of the City Council’s culture Liverpool stated that it seemed like the whole city jumped with excitement and joy at the same time after being announced as the host city.
Michelle Donelan, the Cultural Secretary, said that Liverpool knows very well how to throw a huge party. The city has great taste in music, and they are very fond of it. He said that he is sure that Eurovision 2023 will be a magnificent experience for the thousands of people who will be attending it in person and the millions who will watch it at home on BBC.
The UK has been the host of Eurovision eight times. However, it is for the first time that Liverpool will host the contest. Normally, the country that wins is the host city for the following year. However, this year because of the war, Ukraine could not do so.
Kalush Orchestra, the winner of the Eurovision song contest last year, said that they are honored to perform in the same place where The Beatles started out. It will be a core memory.
They are sad that Eurovision is not being held in Ukraine, but they are sure that Liverpool will do a fantastic job hosting the contest. They are hopeful that Liverpool will add a Ukrainian flavor to Eurovision 2023.
There were several reasons for selecting Liverpool as the host city. First is the city’s rich history and love for music. Secondly, the arena of Liverpool matches all the requirements needed to host such a gigantic event as Eurovision. The show will take place at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, which has a capacity of 11,000.
Martin Osterdahl, who is the executive supervisor for Eurovision, said that they have been impressed with Liverpool’s enthusiasm for hosting the contest and the way they came up with creative ideas to place Ukraine in the front through the event setup.
The ticket details have not been released yet. However, as per the reports, there will not be one but nine shows.
